the story behind the art: Does this piece remind you of a Creamsicle or is it just me? I remember wanting one as a kid because I loved the colors, but I’m not a fan of the taste. This piece takes me back to my childhood of hot Texas summers. We made up games to play, peed in the bushes when we were warned or told “come in this house one more time and you will stay in” or “quit letting out all the cold air.” I think of the tune of the cream truck and running inside to ask for money and most of the time being told no and watching a friend enjoy their bomb pop. The ice cream truck made all the kids cheer. Such simple joys. That’s what this piece evokes me.
Let’s open ourselves up to the simple joys again. Play your favorite childhood song, sit on a swing, play. Just play. Whatever that looks like. You may find that your form of play has evolved from when you were a kid, and that’s okay.
